It is home to a range of shops, restaurants and pubs and hosts its annual Ballyshannon Folk & Traditional Music Festival. Next to the town is Assaroe Lake, ideal for fishing and watersports. A short drive away is an 18-hole golf course, Bundoran Golf Club, on the coastline of Donegal Bay offering views of the Atlantic Ocean and the Dartry Mountains.
