Edinburgh, Scotland's capital city is often called the Athens of the North and it's every bit as beautiful as Athens and more. Visit Mary King's Close, a street buried underneath the old town where real people lived and worked during the 17th Century. Mary King's Close was named after the daughter of an important long ago merchant, it is said to be haunted, being the setting for many popular guided ghost tours and walks today, itís a great attraction on romantic breaks.

Edinburgh is a good choice for self-catering holidays, Visit the Royal Mile for some of Edinburgh's greatest sights. Several streets actually make up the Royal Mile, but from Edinburgh Castle to Holyrood Palace you can take in some of the capital's most exciting historical views. Don't miss the National Gallery. This fabulous building on the Mound is home to Scotland's most important art collections and is ideal for a morning spent wandering its venerable galleries. The National Gallery is also an architectural attraction, with its classic Greek facade which dominates the Mound.
