County Armagh Holiday Cottages and Self catering County Armagh holidays

Co. Armagh holiday cottages

Situated in the North East of the island, County Armagh is known as the "Orchard County" due to its fertile soil suitable for apple growing. This also means there is an array of working farms which have converted barns for holiday accommodation. This not only offers an exceptional view of the countryside right on your doorstep, but it also allows visitors to see aspects of daily farming life, not to mention seeing the animals up close which can be a great experience for children of all ages. Steeped in history, the county can trace its history back to the 4th century AD. Saint Patrick's Church of Ireland Cathedral was founded in 445AD. Particularly noted for its stunning rolling countryside, Slieve Gullion, an extinct volcano with a crater lake, is a particularly popular tourist attraction that offers views of 9 counties. With so much countryside on offer, this is a great place to stay in a self-catering country cottage or farmhouse. Getting around is a little more difficult than in Antrim, but you'll still find rail connections to places such as Newry, Portadon, Poyntzpass, Scarva, Lurgan and other larger settlements. However, car remains the ideal way to travel.
